Best Twitter of the Week, and sums up the life of an interactive producer and having to deal with all the formats you need to put out to do good online video:
Merlin, PLEASE re-encode all your stuff in “GleepGlop.” It’s a GNU format I made up at lunch for running lossless video on my inhaler. TIA!

Happy Valentines Day, everyone! Merlin, you’re a genius.

Single-Owner Mass Media Means Companies Need To Use “New” Media
February 10, 2008 by Jeremiah Staes · Leave a Comment
It used to be that as a corporate or business communicator you could keep peddling your wares to the different stations, newspapers, and outlets in town, and eventually someone might pick you up.
Now, although there are more choices than ever, there are fewer owners than ever. Before, you could shop your story - now, one no can mean no to five or six different outlets.
That’s why it’s key to create the story yourself. Interestingly, new media (such as blogs, podcasts, and yes, even the old standby corporate or business website) are directly speaking to consumers and purchasing decision makers more and more, cutting out the middle man.
Although this revolution has already changed retail and the purchase of many goods (with bricks and mortar retailers feeling the pain due to the rise of eBay and Amazon.com), it’s not over yet. The same thing is starting to happen with corporate communications as well - people are now going to the source directly and relying on their friends’ recommendations, as well as word of mouth. The days of buying your way to credibility through a mass-media campaign are on the wane.
Any PR firm and agency worth their salt needs to realize that the time of hiding behind a PR spin is over - and that to get a message out, it’s important to join the conversation and talk honestly with their customers and purchasers, because there is no longer a screen or wall. In fact, by blogging, podcasting and having a well designed website (more on that this week right here), you will have more of an opportunity to shape the message than ever before.
